What Size Mattress Should You Get?

Posted by Nicholas Crusie on

If you’re on the hunt for a new mattress, we’ve got your back.  Mattress shopping isn’t the most enjoyable thing you’ll do in your adult life, but it doesn’t have to be as painful as a root canal.  In fact, if you know a little information about the mattress industry and educate yourself on the basics before you head to the store or open your web browser, you can save yourself a lot of time, money, and frustration.

There are really some simple basics to know.  You need to know the basics of sizing, material, and cost.  Once you narrow down these categories you can hone in on where you’d like to shop, and how much you’d like to spend.  But if you’re still deciding what size mattress you actually need, we can help there too.

CordaRoy’s is your industry leader in mattress education and information.  You can trust us to deliver information that is reliable and current.  At CordaRoy’s, we manufacture and deliver comfort, straight from our warehouse to your door, with zero hassle, zero inconvenience.  The entire process will be completely painless and you’ll get a great mattress and comfortable seating with every purchase.  CordaRoy’s is the only bean bag chair that contains a bed inside the outer shell.  No other company offers a product like ours; we know because we hold the patent.

Whether you are looking for additional bedding for occasional overnight guests, a great way to create a comfortable and cozy game room, or simply add a super comfortable and trendy bean bag chair to your decor, a CordaRoy’s convertible bean bag chair will meet your needs.   Additionally, you aren’t limited to just one size of chair or mattress.  If you’re looking for a queen or king sized mattress to outfit a guest room that will see a lot of coupled-up company, there’s a CordaRoy’s available.  If you need a small, youth sized mattress for your daughter’s sleepover friend, there’s a CordaRoy’s in a size that will fit perfectly for her friend and be her favorite spot to read a book or listen to her favorite tunes when not used as bedding.

If you’re still stuck on what size mattress you should get, we can help.  We’re somewhat experts at conserving space, using every inch available, and creating areas in a home that are well loved and highly sought after.  You’ll need to consider the size of the room your mattress (and potential bed frame, header and footer) will go in, what the room will be used for, and what kind of budget you have.  Also good to remember is the potential for the space you’re placing your bed in; what other ways could you use that space if you were not using it solely as a sleep space.

Thinking in these terms we will help you decide the appropriate bed and mattress size you need, and rule out the ones you don’t.  We can also help you figure out if a CordaRoy’s is a better option for you.

Understanding Your Space

As a homeowner, you’ve got limited space to work with.  You want to make sure you use your space effectively and efficiently.  Even if you’re living the dream in a 5,000 square foot home, there’s no need to waste space or dedicate entire rooms to guest rooms if you don’t have to.

A better option when considering your space, is to approach it from a mindset of how best your family can use it.  Maybe you’re a family of three with a five bedroom house.  Assuming you have about three spare bedrooms, you might automatically assign one as a guest bedroom.  That’s a fair usage, but what about considering other options; could your child or children use a playroom?  Would your family enjoy a darkened media room?  Does anyone in the family have a need for a craft or hobby room?  What about a library?  This is your home, and as such, we at CordaRoy’s feel it should suit you.  What’s the point in having a guest room if it’s only used once a year for a few days?

You can still provide ample bedding for your guests and make the most of your home’s space with a CordaRoy’s.  Instead of piling a bed, dresser, and night table in that spare room, set it up for something your family will use and outfit it with an uber comfortable CordaRoy convertible bean bag chair.  The chair will serve as comfortable, often fought-over seating when guests aren’t around, and will convert to a mattress that may make your guests want to stay longer (be warned).

Another aspect of understanding your space is measurement.  You don’t want a king size bed in a spare bedroom that simply can’t handle that amount of bed.  If you’ve got your heart set on providing king sized bedding for your guests but simply don’t have the space for a king size bed frame and headboard, CordaRoy’s to the rescue.  Use your CordaRoy’s convertible bean bag as a comfortable seat or favorite nap spot by day, and a larger than life king size mattress at night.

Another deciding factor can be the reason you are in need of a mattress.  In keeping with our guest bedding analogy, it’s important to consider how many guests you receive each year.  If you’ve got a single cousin that visits one week a year, you might be fine opting for a twin mattress.  If your brother’s entire family (including their three kids) likes to pop in once or twice a year, you may need to invest in a series of mattresses.  It really depends on how much traffic you expect these mattresses to see.

Lastly, if you’re really limited on space, you don’t have to settle.  For instance, if you’re renting a studio apartment you don’t have to pick between a couch or a bed.  Having guests over to watch a movie on your bed is sometimes a little awkward.  Having guests over to watch a movie on your comfortable super-sized bean bag chair is totally appropriate.  And when guests leave (or don’t) you can conveniently open the bean bag and pull out the enclosed mattress.  In the morning, simply place the mattress back in its case, and you’ve successfully turned your bedroom into your living room once again.

Mattress Sizes and Budget

Once you’ve determined the proper use of your space, you’ll want to measure it to make sure the amount of mattress you’d like to place in your space will actually fit.  Here’s a chart to show you the differences in mattress sizes.

You’ll need to consider how much space you need to provide on either side of the bed and at the foot of the bed.  Traditionally, beds shouldn’t be placed against a wall, as the person sleeping against the wall sometimes has difficulty getting in and out of the bed.  Standard recommendations for minimum clearance is thirty inches around the perimeter of the bed, excluding the headboard.  For more movement and safety, you can always leave more room.  Anything smaller than thirty inches is considered a tight squeeze.

If you’re measuring your room and realizing that the queen size bed you want won’t allow for appropriate clearance, a CordaRoy’s can help.  Even though our mattress sizes measure up to the standard, our furniture-grade polyurethane foam filled mattresses sit low to the floor, so guests are safer getting on and off of our mattresses than a bed that sits higher up.  Additionally, if the bed is only being used a portion of the time, you can get away with a little less clearance and provide a mattress that will likely be more comfortable.

Your budget will also be a limiting factor when shopping for a mattress.  If your budget is tight, however, don’t assume you have to go cheap on your sleep!  You can afford a quality mattress that sleeps wonderfully if you know how to shop.  This is another great example of how a CordaRoy’s can be a better solution than purchasing a plain mattress.  CordaRoy’s cost hundreds of dollars less than a standard mattress and provide two pieces of furniture in one.

We also give you the opportunity to own a larger mattress on less of a budget.  If you’ve got king size mattress dreams on a full size mattress budget, you don’t have to settle for a smaller or lesser quality bed.  In fact, by investing money in a CordaRoy’s, you can have more than you originally planned for; you can have the benefit of the world’s most comfortable seat and the world’s most comfortable mattress.

Selecting a mattress size comes down to your room size, purpose of your room, and many guests you will have.  These options can help you determine which size mattress will work best for you.  However, if you have your heart set on a particular size mattress and your space or budget won’t allow for it, consider a CordaRoy’s!  With the benefit of being both a chair and a bed, you’ll get more for your money than you do with a regular mattress purpose and be able to enjoy your purchase year round, not just when you have overnight guests.
